The Dungeon faction, also known as the Warlocks’ faction, has long been a beloved element in the Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, seamlessly weaving into the game's rich narrative. Our journey into Jadame has unveiled creatures intrinsically linked to the Dungeon faction, each with their unique domains on the continent. This discovery allowed the developers to craft a faction that honors its traditional roots while introducing fresh, innovative concepts.

If we were to encapsulate the essence of the Dungeon faction throughout the series in just two words, "power" and "outcasts" would be fitting. Revisiting the world of Enroth offers a chance to redefine these formidable warlocks. Drawing inspiration from Jadame's lore, particularly from Might and Magic VIII: The Alvaric Pact, the Dungeon faction undergoes a transformation.

Creatures once seen merely as monsters now form alliances with red-skinned dark elves, a group historically marginalized for their practical approach. Together, they bolster their strength through diplomacy, trade, and strategic pacts—a notable departure from their portrayal in earlier versions of the faction.

Throughout the Heroes series, the Dungeon faction has been characterized by skilled warlocks and commanding leaders, each installment presenting them in a unique light:

  • In Heroes I and Heroes II, servants of Lord Alamar and King Archibald pursued power, rallying creatures with similar ambitions under their banners.
  • In Heroes III, Nighon’s warlords upheld the creed that strength equates to dominance, ruling from subterranean tunnels with ambitions to conquer Antagarich.
  • In Heroes IV, chaotic sorcerers and thieves thrived in Axeoth’s swamps, mobilizing rogues to seize territory in the burgeoning world.
  • In parts five through seven, Ashan’s dark elves aligned with the Dragon-Goddess Malassa and the underworld, crafting a narrative rich with intrigue.
