Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090: 32GB GDDR7 Memory and 575W Power Draw - A CES 2025 Reveal
Leaks suggest Nvidia's upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 will pack a powerful punch. This high-end graphics card is rumored to feature a massive 32GB of GDDR7 video memory—double that of the anticipated RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti. However, this performance comes at a cost: a substantial 575W power draw. The official unveiling of the RTX 50 series, including the RTX 5090, is scheduled for Nvidia's CES 2025 keynote on January 6th.
The RTX 50 series, codenamed Blackwell, represents Nvidia's next-generation graphics card architecture, launching over two years after the RTX 40 series. Building upon its predecessor, the RTX 50 series will leverage Tensor Cores for AI processing, DLSS upscaling, ray tracing, and PCIe 5.0 support (on compatible motherboards). This new lineup will replace the RTX 40 series (some models of which, like the RTX 4090D and RTX 4070, have already been discontinued), and will compete directly with AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series and Intel's Battlemage GPUs.
Pre-CES leaks from Inno3D, an Nvidia AIB partner, revealed further details about the RTX 5090. Their iChill X3 RTX 5090, a triple-fan card occupying over three expansion slots, confirms the 32GB GDDR7 memory and the significant 575W power requirement – a considerable jump from the RTX 4090's 450W.
The Nvidia RTX 5090: High Memory, High Power, High Price?
Key features of the RTX 5090, as revealed by Inno3D, include:
- 32GB GDDR7 Memory: Twice the memory capacity anticipated for the RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti.
- 575W Power Draw: Requires a high-capacity power supply.
- January 6th Reveal: Official announcement at CES 2025.
The RTX 50 series will utilize a 16-pin power connector, though adapters will be provided. While the specifications are impressive, a high price tag is expected, potentially starting at $1999 or more. Nvidia has yet to officially confirm pricing.
The remaining RTX 50 series cards (RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti) will be revealed alongside the RTX 5090 during Nvidia's CES keynote. The arrival of this new generation will undoubtedly be a significant event for PC gamers and enthusiasts.
