What Energy Crystals Do in R.E.P.O. and How to Get More

Author : Daniel Update : Jul 24,2025

Surviving a level in the co-op horror game R.E.P.O. is no small feat. After battling terrifying entities like Clowns, Gnomes, and Shadow Children, making it back to the Service Station is a victory in itself. Once there, you and your team can restock, upgrade gear, and invest in essential tools—including Energy Crystals. These may look like simple yellow gems, but they play a crucial role in keeping your equipment powered and your runs efficient.

What Are Energy Crystals in R.E.P.O.?

Energy Crystals are premium upgrades available at the Service Station after completing your first mission. Priced between $7,000 and $9,000, they are most affordable early in the game when difficulty is lower. If your team survives the first level with minimal damage and a solid cash haul, it’s wise to purchase a few right away before prices climb or threats intensify.

Once bought, an Energy Crystal automatically activates an Energy Container inside your R.E.P.O. truck. This station becomes a vital hub for recharging essential tools such as the Valuables Detector and Extraction Tracker. Instead of replacing drained gear, simply place it in the bin next to the container—identified by its bright yellow lightning bolt icon—and let it recharge. This feature saves both time and money over multiple runs.

Each Energy Crystal depletes with use and has a limited lifespan. On average, one crystal can restore up to four battery segments across tools, while six fully depleted crystals are needed to refill the entire Energy Container. When a crystal breaks, it must be replaced to maintain functionality—making ongoing investment necessary for long-term efficiency.

Energy Crystals can only be purchased at the Service Station, so gathering enough cash during each level is critical. Focus on scavenging and securing high-value loot to maximize your earnings. Remember, you must pass the level’s minimum payout threshold for the Taxman to grant access to the Service Station—otherwise, you’ll skip straight to the next location without a chance to buy upgrades.

In tougher levels, survival comes first. Sometimes, it’s smarter to exit with just enough funds to progress rather than risk losing everything trying to over-loot. Strategic extraction ensures you live to fight another day—and keep your Energy Container stocked.
