It's worth recalling that Helldivers 2 shattered records as the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever, achieving an incredible milestone of 12 million copies sold within a mere 12 weeks. This feat sets a benchmark unlikely to be surpassed by any first-party Sony-developed game. Yet, the journey since its explosive launch has been tumultuous, featuring a reversal on PSN account requirements on Steam, intense review-bomb campaigns, and a community often clashing with the game itself over adjustments to gameplay mechanics.
Arrowhead has faced challenges adapting to a vastly larger and more mainstream audience than it had previously encountered. Now, 14 months after Helldivers 2's release on PC and PlayStation 5, the question arises: how does Arrowhead view its past experiences? Has it begun to master the challenging dynamics of live-service gaming? Following the exciting Killzone collaboration, could a partnership with Warhammer 40,000 be on the horizon?
IGN had the opportunity to delve into these questions with Alex Bolle, the production director of Helldivers 2, to gain deeper insights into Arrowhead's reflections and future plans.
