Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Sells 1 Million Copies in 24 Hours
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Phenomenal Launch: A Million Copies Sold in a Day
A Resounding Success Across Platforms
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has enjoyed a spectacular launch, achieving both critical acclaim and impressive sales figures across all platforms. Warhorse Studios proudly announced on Twitter (X) that the game surpassed one million copies sold within 24 hours of its February 4, 2025 release – a feat significantly exceeding its predecessor's nine-day milestone.
SteamDB data reveals a concurrent player count peaking at 176,285 within a six-hour period, dwarfing KCD1's all-time high of 96,069. Furthermore, KCD2 secured a prominent 12th position among PlayStation games in the US, as featured on the PS Store homepage. OpenCritic awarded the game a "Mighty" rating, boasting an 89 score and a 97% critic recommendation rate.
Addressing Critical Feedback
Despite the largely positive reception, KCD2 has not been without its detractors. Creative Director Daniel Vávra publicly acknowledged some negative reviews on Twitter (X), addressing criticisms that described gameplay as laborious or overly demanding. He responded to these lower scores, which impacted the game's overall OpenCritic aggregate, by subtly questioning the reviewers' journalistic integrity.
Online Backlash and LGBTQ+ Content
Vávra also engaged with online criticism targeting the game's inclusion of same-sex romance options. He called out several Metacritic user reviews labeling KCD2 as "historically inaccurate DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) game," urging fans to counter negative reviews and report bot activity. He reiterated that the LGBTQ+ content is entirely optional, emphasizing the player's agency in shaping their experience within the expansive medieval world of KCD2.
