Hungry Horrors: Steam Demo Out, Mobile Version Soon

Hungry Horrors, the latest quirky roguelite deckbuilder from UK-based Clumsy Bear Studio, is turning the genre on its head. Instead of battling monsters, players take on the role of a princess who must cook traditional British and Irish dishes to appease a variety of folklore creatures. The game's unique premise has just been made available through its first playable demo on Steam, with additional demos accessible on Itch and GOG.

Following its initial release on PC, Clumsy Bear Studio plans to expand Hungry Horrors to mobile and console platforms. While an official release date remains under wraps, the studio has been actively engaging with the community, showcasing the game at events like the London Game Festival 2025.

The Steam demo offers players a comprehensive preview of what to expect, featuring two handcrafted biomes, six hungry monsters to serve, two boss fights, and four NPCs to interact with. Additionally, non-combat zones such as the Nook and the Trove allow players to regroup and refine their culinary strategies.

More About Hungry Horrors

In Hungry Horrors, players must master the art of cooking to satisfy the appetites of legendary creatures from folklore. The game combines deckbuilding mechanics with culinary arts, set against a backdrop of retro pixel art and gothic aesthetics. Humor plays a significant role, as players whip up dishes like Bara Brith and Cranachan to cater to the specific tastes of each monster.

Encountering creatures like Jenny Greenteeth, a swamp witch with a penchant for blood, and Black Annis, a child-snatching hag with iron claws, players must carefully craft meals to avoid becoming the next course. Understanding the preferences and aversions of each monster, such as Grendel and Redcap, is crucial. Some may crave sweet treats, while others might detest fish.

The deckbuilding aspect adds depth to the gameplay, requiring players to strategically combine ingredients and utilize utensils, spices, and herbs to enhance their dishes. As players advance, they unlock new recipes, ingredients, legendary artifacts, and rescued familiars, enriching their culinary arsenal.
