Dr Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Game
Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure after three years of operation. The studio, which employed over 55 developers, also confirmed the cancellation of their highly anticipated first-person shooter (FPS) game, Deadrop. In a poignant post on X, Midnight Society shared, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The studio also reached out to the gaming community, asking if any other studios are hiring and could provide employment opportunities to their talented team members.
Founded by Beahm along with industry veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, known for their work on games like Call of Duty and Halo, Midnight Society aimed to leverage their expertise in the FPS genre with Deadrop. The game was initially planned as a free-to-play title with a 2024 release date, but it failed to meet this target.

Midnight Society's relationship with Beahm ended in 2024 following revelations that the streamer had engaged in inappropriate messaging with a minor via Twitch's Whispers feature. Despite this split, the studio continued to work on Deadrop until its recent closure. The game was set in a unique universe where "the 80s never ended," featuring characters with Daft Punk-inspired helmets and a mix of guns and swords. The gameplay was designed as a PvPvE extraction shooter, promising a thrilling experience for players.
The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of studios facing shutdowns or layoffs in the current challenging climate of the gaming industry. This trend has also affected other notable companies such as Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and many others, highlighting the difficulties faced by the sector.
