Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase: Unveiling the Update

Closed Beta: March 13th - 19th, 2025

Ubisoft officially announced the Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) Closed Beta, running from March 13th, 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET (immediately following the R6 Siege X Showcase) to March 19th, 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET.

Access the Closed Beta by watching the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or participating Twitch streams from select content creators to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The beta will feature the new Dual Front game mode and be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Currently, some players are experiencing issues receiving the beta access code email. Ubisoft Support has acknowledged this on Twitter (X) and is working to resolve the problem.

It's crucial to remember that R6 Siege X isn't a new game, but a significant update enhancing Siege with graphical and technical improvements.

Dual Front: The New 6v6 Game Mode

Dual Front is a dynamic 6v6 mode offering core gameplay upgrades, including visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel improvements, and revamped player protection. Importantly, it offers free access to experience Rainbow Six Siege's tactical action.

This mode introduces a new map, District, where two teams of six Operators simultaneously attack and defend sectors. This is a first for R6, creating exciting new strategic possibilities with gadget combinations and tactical approaches.

Classic Siege gameplay remains, now titled "Core Siege" in the main menu. This includes five modernized maps (Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe) with double texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and enhanced destructible materials. Modernization of additional maps will continue in future seasons, three at a time.

Free Access Arriving in Year 10, Season 2

After a decade, Rainbow Six Siege is going free-to-play. This shift reflects the evolution of the gaming landscape since its 2015 release, when paid multiplayer games were the norm.

Game Director Alexander Karpazis, speaking at the R6 Siege X Showcase, emphasized the goal of introducing Siege to new players and fostering a more inclusive community experience. Free access includes Unranked, Quick Play, and Dual Front. Ranked mode and the Siege Cup will remain exclusive to premium access holders. This decision aims to maintain a balanced competitive environment.

No Siege 2 in the Works

Contrary to expectations, a Siege 2 sequel was never considered. Instead, Ubisoft focused on Siege X, a major evolution of the original game, developed over three years alongside ongoing seasonal updates. Siege X aims to ensure the continued success of the franchise for another decade, respecting and engaging the dedicated community that has supported the game for so long.

Rainbow Six Siege X launches June 10th, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates!
