Announced in September, Ghost of Yōtei introduces a new protagonist in Atsu, set in early 1600s Japan. Unlike the original Ghost of Tsushima, this sequel shifts focus to Ezo—modern-day Hokkaido—where Atsu returns after years of exile to hunt down the six outlaws who destroyed her life.
“Sixteen years ago, the Yōtei Six murdered her family and left her for dead, pinned to a burning ginkgo tree,” explained Andrew Goldfarb, Sucker Punch’s senior communications manager. “She survived. She trained. And now, armed with the very katana that once held her captive, she’s returning with a list of six names: The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito.”
While her journey begins with revenge, the narrative will evolve as Atsu forms unexpected alliances and discovers a deeper purpose beyond bloodshed.
The release of Ghost of Yōtei comes just six months after Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft’s own samurai-themed open-world title set in feudal Japan. With both games exploring similar themes of vengeance and identity, 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Japanese-inspired action-adventure experiences.
