Marvel Rivals Reaches Player Count Milestone Again Following Rollout of Season 1
Marvel Rivals Shatters Player Count Record with Season 1 Launch
The free-to-play team-based shooter, Marvel Rivals, has achieved a new peak in concurrent players, surpassing its previous record following the release of Season 1: Eternal Night Falls. The game saw a staggering 644,269 concurrent players on January 11th, significantly exceeding its previous high of 480,990 set during its launch week.
Season 1: A Night of New Content
Launched on January 10th, Season 1 introduced a wealth of new content designed to captivate players. This includes the addition of new playable characters, a fresh game map, performance enhancements and optimizations, a revamped ranked system, and a brand-new Battle Pass. The influx of new content clearly fueled the surge in concurrent players.
The Eternal Night Falls theme features Dracula and Doctor Doom plunging the game world into perpetual darkness and unleashing vampiric forces. To counter this, the Fantastic Four join the roster of heroes, adding another layer of excitement to the season.
For comprehensive details on individual character adjustments and other updates, players are encouraged to visit the official Marvel Rivals website or the Steam community page for the complete patch notes.
Goodbye Mods, Hello Anti-Cheat
While the Season 1 update brought much-anticipated content, it also resulted in the removal of community-created modifications (mods). The implementation of asset hash checking now detects inconsistencies in game files, leading to warnings or bans for players using unauthorized modifications, cheats, or hacks.
This change has sparked a mixed reaction within the community. While some mourn the loss of custom content like unique skins, others view it as a necessary step to maintain fairness and protect the game's economy, which relies primarily on cosmetic purchases.
