Mastering the Dual Outfit Trick in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, while focused on action, offers deep weapon and outfit customization. This guide details how to combine the effects of two outfits for a significant gameplay advantage.

Remastered Version Required

This dual-outfit method is exclusive to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. A recent patch introduced a transmog feature, allowing you to visually wear one outfit while retaining the stats and effects of another.

Outfit Requirements

This technique isn't universal. While your primary outfit can be any you choose, your secondary (transmogged) outfit must be one of the following Banuk Werak outfits from the Frozen Wilds DLC:

  • Banuk Werak Runner
  • Banuk Werak Chieftain
  • Banuk Werak Chieftain Adept (New Game+ only)

Access to the Frozen Wilds DLC isn't contingent on completing the main game.

Obtaining Banuk Werak Outfits

Banuk Werak Runner

After reaching the Frozen Wilds area (by defeating the initial machine), locate a Bluegleam Merchant (marked with a blue merchant icon) to purchase the Banuk Werak Runner outfit. Costs vary based on difficulty:

Resource Normal Cost Ultra Hard Cost
Metal Shards 1000 5000
Desert Glass 10 20
Slagshine Glass 10 20

Banuk Werak Chieftain & Chieftain Adept

The superior Banuk Werak Chieftain outfit is earned by completing the "For the Werak" quest (the third main quest in Frozen Wilds). Consider lowering the difficulty if needed. The Adept version is obtained the same way, but only in New Game+.

Combining Outfit Effects

Equip your desired outfit (optimizing stats with Weaves as needed). Then, use the transmog feature to apply the appearance of one of the three Banuk Werak outfits. These outfits lack additional stats but provide passive healing after taking damage.

This strategy lets you retain your chosen outfit's stats while gaining the auto-healing benefit. The Chieftain and Chieftain Adept offer significantly faster healing than the Runner. Combining this with an outfit like the Shield-Weaver makes Aloy incredibly resilient.
