FF7 Remake DLC in the Making, Subject to Fan Demand
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Release: Director Discusses Mods and DLC Possibilities
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently shed light on the game's PC version, addressing the modding community and the possibility of future DLC. Read on for details.
No Immediate DLC Plans, but Player Demand Could Change That
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints prioritized completing the final installment of the Remake trilogy. Hamaguchi stated in a December 13th Epic Games blog post interview that adding new content was a desire, but ultimately, finishing the next game takes precedence. However, he left the door open: "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them." Significant player demand could lead to future DLC.
A Message to Modders: Creativity Welcomed, but Keep it Clean
Hamaguchi also addressed the modding community, acknowledging the inevitable influx of player-created modifications. While official mod support isn't present, he expressed respect for creativity, urging modders to refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential for transformative mods, similar to the evolution of games like Counter-Strike from Half-Life mods, is acknowledged, but the need for responsible modding is emphasized.
PC Version Enhancements and Challenges
The PC version boasts graphical upgrades, including improved lighting (addressing the "uncanny valley" effect of the original), higher-resolution textures, and enhanced 3D models leveraging more powerful hardware than the PS5. However, adapting the mini-games for PC proved challenging, requiring extensive work on key configuration settings.
