"Unreal Engine 5.5 Demo Unveils Cyberpunk Future"
An exciting new tech demo powered by Unreal Engine 5.5.3 has hit the scene, inviting players to explore a stunningly immersive walkthrough of a futuristic cyberpunk city. Crafted by the talented artist Sciontidesign, this project takes its cues from the iconic Samaritan UE3 demo, the visually rich world of the Blade Runner franchise, and the cyberpunk atmosphere of Cyberpunk 2077. The demo was demonstrated on top-tier hardware, boasting an NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM operating at 6000MHz.
This tech demonstration stands out for its exclusive use of dynamic lighting, showcasing the prowess of Unreal Engine 5's Nanite technology combined with Distance Field Meshes and Ambient Occlusion, enhanced further by Screen Space Reflections. Impressively, the demo does not rely on advanced features such as Lumen, Path Tracing, RTX, DLSS, or baked lighting, which underlines the potential of UE5 even when not utilizing its most advanced tools.
The rain effect in the demo may come across as slightly artificial, yet the rendering of wet surfaces is meticulously detailed, contributing significantly to the depth and realism of the urban environment. However, the experience is occasionally marred by the presence of frequent invisible walls, which can detract from the overall immersion. While Unreal Engine 5 tech demos continue to set the bar high with visually breathtaking showcases, it's worth noting that games developed on the engine can sometimes face performance challenges when transitioning to real-world applications.
