Pokemon TCG Pocket: Paralyzed, Explained (& All Cards with ‘Paralyze’ Ability)
This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, detailing its mechanics, counters, and optimal deck building strategies. The guide is part of a larger directory on Pokémon TCG Pocket.
Quick Links
Pokémon TCG Pocket faithfully recreates the Paralyzed condition from the physical card game. This special condition prevents an opponent's Active Pokémon from attacking or retreating for one turn. The effect automatically ends before your next turn.
What is Paralyzed?
Paralysis immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon, rendering it inactive for a single round. It's automatically removed at the next Checkup phase.
Paralyzed vs. Asleep
Both Paralyze and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Asleep requires a coin flip or specific card effects to cure, unlike Paralysis which resolves automatically.
Paralyzed in Pocket vs. Physical TCG
While Trainer cards like Full Heal remove Paralysis in the physical game, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks direct counters. The core mechanic remains consistent: one turn of inactivity.
Which Cards Paralyze?
Currently, only three Genetic Apex cards inflict Paralysis: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each relies on a coin flip, making it a somewhat unpredictable strategy.
How to Cure Paralysis?
Four methods exist to remove Paralysis:
- Automatic Removal: Paralysis ends at the start of your next turn.
- Evolution: Evolving the affected Pokémon immediately cures it.
- Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon to the Bench removes the effect.
- Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers a targeted cure, but only under specific conditions (Weezing or Muk).
Best Paralyze Deck?
Paralysis alone isn't a strong deck archetype. Combining it with the Asleep condition, however, creates a more effective strategy. An Articuno & Frosmoth deck, utilizing Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex, offers a potent combination of both effects.
