Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Opening Weekend Success
250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players And Counting
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has achieved a staggering peak of over 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. KCD2's Creative Director, Daniel Vávra, proudly shared on Twitter (X) that the game reached a new high with 256,206 players online simultaneously. Since its debut, KCD2 has consistently broken its own concurrent player records daily from February 4 to February 9.

Reports indicate that KCD2 has sold approximately 890,000 copies on Steam alone. Currently, it ranks as the 2nd top-selling game on Steam, just behind Counter-Strike 2, and is the 5th most-played game, following CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana. With over 1 million copies sold at launch, KCD2 is on track to reach 2 million sales soon.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Attention To Detail
The opening weekend's triumph can be credited to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing the game's immersion and enjoyment. Known for its commitment to realism, the series continues to push boundaries with KCD2. Features like food spoilage, the need for cleaning clothes and armor, and maintaining sword sharpness immerse players in a true 15th-century medieval experience.
KCD2 Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a novel stealth mechanic where accumulated dirt and grime lead to a debuff. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner explained, highlighting how players inadvertently signal their presence.
The game also introduces "handgonnes," early firearms that reflect the era's challenges. Bittner told PC Gamer that these weapons are difficult to use, slow to reload, highly inaccurate, and potentially dangerous to the user. "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it," he admitted.
KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their focus on authenticity over hyperaccuracy. "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible," he stated.
Post-Launch Roadmap
Warhorse Studios has outlined an exciting post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content throughout 2025.
Free updates include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing, slated for release in Spring 2025. Paid DLCs will roll out starting in Summer with "Brushes with Death," followed by "Legacy of the Forge" in Autumn, and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" in Winter.
With its overwhelming success during the opening weekend, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial triumph with these updates and future expansions, potentially setting new records along the way.
