Elden Ring: Nightreign will remove an iconic feature of the last game. Why won't players be able to leave messages?
Elden Ring: Nightreign will omit the in-game messaging feature, a significant departure from previous FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision in a recent interview, citing the game's shorter play sessions. Nightreign's approximately forty-minute gameplay sessions leave insufficient time for players to write or read messages effectively.
"Given the roughly forty-minute session length, there's not enough time to send or read messages; hence, we disabled the feature," Ishizaki stated.
This change is noteworthy, considering the prominent role of player messages in enhancing the experience of past FromSoftware games. However, the developers deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.
To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate narrative. It promises a fresh adventure with unique challenges and encounters, while retaining the distinctive atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
