Application Description
MAME4droid, crafted by David Valdeita (Seleuco), is an Android port of the acclaimed MAME 0.37b5 emulator originally developed by Nicola Salmoria and the MAME Team. It's a derivative of iMAME4all, designed for jailbroken iOS devices, and is built upon the foundation of GP2X, WIZ MAME4ALL 2.5 by Franxis. MAME4droid extends the capabilities of the original MAME 0.37b5, enabling it to emulate over 2000 different arcade game romsets, including some from more recent MAME versions.
It's important to note that with such an extensive library of games, performance can vary significantly. While some games might run seamlessly, others may not be compatible or may require adjustments for optimal performance. Owners of older devices should be particularly mindful of this and consider lowering sound quality, reducing bit depth to 8-bit, underclocking the CPU and Sound CPUs, and disabling animations and smooth scaling to enhance gameplay.
To start enjoying the vast world of arcade classics, simply place your MAME-titled zipped roms in the /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/roms folder after installation. MAME4droid is designed to work exclusively with the '0.37b5' and 'GP2X, WIZ 0.37b11 mame romset'. For romsets from other MAME versions, use the "clrmame.dat" file located in /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/ with the ClrMAME Pro utility, available at http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/, to convert them to a compatible format.
It's worth noting that MAME4droid does not support "save states" due to its reliance on a MAME version without this feature. For the latest updates, source code, and additional information, visit the official webpage at http://code.google.com/p/imame4all/.
Features
MAME4droid is designed to be compatible with Android devices running version 2.1 and above, offering native support for Android Honeycomb tablets and 2D hardware acceleration on Android 3.0 (Honeycomb). Additional enhancements include animated touch stick or DPAD, support for external controllers like iON's iCade and iCP, and Wiimote compatibility via the WiiCrotroller Market app.
