La aclamada película de ciencia ficción de James Cameron, The Abyss, ha sido retirada de Disney+ UK por contener una escena prohibida controversial.

La película original de 1989 incluye una secuencia en la que unos técnicos sumergen a una rata viva en líquido fluorocarbonado durante la producción. Aunque los informes indican que el roedor sobrevivió al rodaje, organizaciones de bienestar animal, incluida la RSPCA, hicieron campaña con éxito para su eliminación hace casi cuatro décadas.

Tras esta revelación, Disney ha retirado temporalmente The Abyss de su catálogo de streaming en el Reino Unido. Bowles aclaró: "No se trata de censura; acogeríamos con agrado que Disney+ restaurara la película después de eliminar esta única escena problemática, en consonancia con sus lanzamientos en cines y medios domésticos del Reino Unido."

"Nuestra preocupación se centra en actualizar las regulaciones de contenido para gobernar adecuadamente las plataformas de streaming, asegurando que los espectadores no estén expuestos a representaciones de crueldad animal históricamente prohibidas", concluyó Bowles.
