Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to Support Cloud Saves

Author : Sophia Update : May 18,2025

Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, providing relief to fans who were concerned following an earlier disclaimer. Initially, Nintendo's website for the Switch 2 edition of the game included a notice stating that it did not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership's Save Data Cloud backup feature. This led to worries, as reported by IGN, that some Switch 2 games, including Tears of the Kingdom, might not offer this functionality.

However, Nintendo has since updated its website, removing all references to cloud saves for Donkey Kong Bananza, but clarifying the situation for Tears of the Kingdom. The new disclaimer on the Tears of the Kingdom page now reads: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This indicates that players will be able to transfer their saves from the original Switch to the Switch 2, but not vice versa. A similar message has been added to the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, suggesting a consistent approach to save data management across these titles.

This update should reassure Switch 2 owners about the continuity of their gaming experience. The ability to transfer saves from the original Switch to the new console is a significant feature for players looking to continue their adventures seamlessly.

In other news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have gone live, maintaining a price point of $449.99. The response has been as enthusiastic as expected. For more details on securing your own Switch 2, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
