"Ultimate Engine Tweaks: The Top Mod for Oblivion Remastered Boosts PC Performance"

If you're among the many fans of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PC, you might have encountered some significant performance issues. According to the tech analysts at Digital Foundry, the remastered version of Oblivion is plagued by "dire" performance problems. Video producer Alex Battaglia described it as "perhaps one of the worst-running games I've ever tested for Digital Foundry."

Battaglia elaborated, "Even if you're running the most powerful hardware available, the stuttering is egregious, severely impacting the gaming experience to the extent that it's baffling how this was deemed acceptable for release." He further noted, "Beyond the hitching, this game is unusually resource-intensive, forcing players to lower settings just to maintain a decent frame rate, even if they can tolerate the stuttering."

PlayIt's no surprise then that the most popular mod for Oblivion Remastered on Nexus Mods is P40L0’s ‘Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),’ which has amassed an impressive 386,604 downloads in under a week.

Here's how P40L0 describes the mod: "Definitive Unreal ‘Engine.ini’ changes aimed at eliminating most stutters, enhancing performance and stability, reducing input latency, and improving picture clarity—all without compromising visuals."

P40L0 explained, "After months of testing with UE5, I wanted to share my definitive custom ‘Engine.ini’ changes for the game. My goal was to maximize optimizations across CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD to eliminate most stuttering, boost performance, decrease input latency, and enhance image quality by removing Film Grain & Chromatic Aberration, and optimizing DLSS/FSR upscaling, all without any visual loss or introducing glitches or crashes."

Feedback from users who have downloaded the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. Chubbyd07 exclaimed, "Stutter be gone! Simply amazing, thanks!" Yeeto51 added, "This .ini is a miracle. From 15-20 fps outside the prison to 65-70 stable. Running on 3600XT and a 2060 with 20GB of RAM (yes)." BabaSmith was equally impressed, stating, "Uhm, what the hell! I went from 60fps on High Preset around Waynon Priory to 90-110fps on the same location. Wizardry!!"

Despite its PC performance issues, Oblivion Remastered remains incredibly popular, boasting a high concurrent player peak on Steam and over 4 million players across all platforms. On Steam, it maintains a 'very positive' user review rating.

However, a recent hotfix released on April 25 has caused issues for Microsoft Store players, particularly affecting the UI settings for graphics related to upscaling and anti-aliasing. At the time of this article's publication, players using the Microsoft Store version (including those on Game Pass for PC) are unable to adjust these settings due to a problem with the settings UI. Bethesda has acknowledged the issue and is working on a solution.
