Square Enix Reveals Kingdom Hearts 4, Shares New Screenshots, Promises to Meet Fan Expectations
Square Enix has put any doubts to rest with a resounding confirmation that Kingdom Hearts 4 is indeed in the works, shared via a new social media post brimming with vivid images and a clear message. This comes on the heels of yesterday's announcement, where they disclosed the cancellation of the GPS-based mobile action-RPG, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, yet used the opportunity to reassure fans that the team is diligently focused on developing Kingdom Hearts 4.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" declared Square Enix in their first of two posts, accompanied by a collage of enticing screenshots. These images not only showcase characters we'll encounter but also offer glimpses into cinematic scenes, combat sequences, platforming challenges, and a formidable enemy that promises epic encounters.

"We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," the second post expressed. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This update marks the first significant news about the eagerly awaited sequel in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease for Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Although revealed in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained relatively silent on the project—until now.
Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the Kingdom Hearts series, has previously suggested that Kingdom Hearts 4 will, after 22 years and 18 games, begin to shift the Kingdom Hearts narrative towards its conclusion.
Regarding the canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix extended its "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to the game. The project was canceled as the company determined "it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
