Sony Unveils teamLFG: New PlayStation Studio from Bungie, Crafting Team-Based Action Game Blending Fighting, MOBA, and 'Frog-Type' Elements

Sony has unveiled a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, which originated from Bungie, the creators of Destiny and Marathon. Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, expressed his enthusiasm for teamLFG's ambitious incubation project. The name "LFG," standing for 'Looking For Group,' hints at the studio's focus on social gaming.

teamLFG's debut game is a team-based action game that blends elements from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." Set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new mythic, science-fantasy universe, the game aims to foster friendship, community, and a sense of belonging among players.

The studio is committed to creating immersive multiplayer worlds where players can learn, play, and master the game over countless hours. They plan to involve the community in the development process through early access playtests, ensuring they can adapt to player feedback both before and after launch, enhancing the game and community over time.

teamLFG's project was spun out of Bungie amid significant layoffs in 2023 and 2024, following Sony's acquisition and Bungie's struggles to meet financial targets with Destiny 2. These layoffs affected approximately 320 employees, with some being integrated into other parts of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

In related news, Bungie has fully revealed their extraction shooter, Marathon, and outlined the future roadmap for Destiny 2. They have no plans for Destiny 3 and have canceled a Destiny spinoff called Payback.
