"Silent Hill f: A Fresh Start for New and Old Fans, Says Konami"
Silent Hill f marks a fresh chapter in the iconic horror series, as it is not a sequel to any previous Silent Hill games. Drawing inspiration from Silent Hill 2, this new installment will feature a standalone story that is "independent from the series," according to publisher Konami. This confirmation came via an announcement on X/Twitter, where Konami emphasized that Silent Hill f is "a completely new title" designed to be accessible to newcomers, even those unfamiliar with the series' lore centered around a quiet American east-coast resort town.
While some entries like Silent Hill 1, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill Origins are interlinked, others such as Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 4: The Room, and Homecoming have ventured beyond the titular town's boundaries. Konami's latest statement ensures that players won't need prior knowledge of the 26-year-old series to fully engage with the unique setting of Silent Hill f, which transports players to 1960s Japan.
In Silent Hill f, players will follow the journey of Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with the weight of societal and familial expectations in post-war Japan. The narrative has been crafted by Ryukishi07, renowned for the When They Cry visual novel series. The game's Japanese-language reveal trailer from March highlighted that Silent Hill f will be the first in the franchise to receive an 18+ rating certification in Japan, signifying its mature content.
Currently in development, Silent Hill f is set to maintain its mature rating across different regions, with an Mature rating in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan. This contrasts with previous entries in the series, which generally received ratings suitable for ages 15 and up in Japan. As the development progresses, these ratings may be subject to change.
No specific release date has been announced for Silent Hill f, and details remain scarce regarding No Code's forthcoming Silent Hill game, Townfall.
