The thrill of a perfectly timed parry in an action game is unparalleled – that satisfying moment of turning an enemy's attack against them. If you crave that visceral *Avowed* experience, here's how to master the parry.

To parry in Avowed, you must first unlock the ability. Navigate to the menu, select "Abilities," then the "Ranger" tab. The Parry ability is located in the top middle column. Unlocking it requires spending an Ability point in one of the three core skill trees.

Parry has three ranks, detailed below:

RankPlayer Level RequirementLevel Description
1N/A (1 Point Spent)Unlocks Parry.
2Player Level 5Increases Parry efficiency by 25%, dealing greater Stun on successful parries.
3Player Level 8Increases Parry efficiency by 50%, dealing greater Stun on successful parries.

At level 10, you can unlock "Arrow Deflection," allowing you to parry projectiles.

Parrying requires precise timing; block just before an enemy's attack connects. A metallic clang and a visual cue confirm a successful parry, staggering your opponent. Mastering the timing takes practice, but it's less demanding than in games like Dark Souls or Elden Ring.

Parrying Limitations

Not all attacks are parryable. A red circle indicates attacks requiring a dodge. Similarly, only single-handed and two-handed weapons (not in your off-hand) and shields (in your off-hand) can parry. Ranged weapons and grimoires cannot be used to parry.

What Parrying Does (and Why You Should Use It)

Parrying stuns and staggers enemies, creating openings for significant damage. It's a defensive maneuver that enhances offensive capabilities. However, its effectiveness depends on your build; melee characters benefit most. Respeccing is easy in Avowed, allowing you to adjust your skillset as needed.

Avowed is available now.
