MageTrain: Fast-Paced Pixel Art Roguelike Now on Android

Tidepool Games has released a thrilling new game for Android enthusiasts called MageTrain, which is a fast-paced pixel art 'snakelike' roguelike. If you're familiar with Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain's gameplay reminiscent of it, as it draws significant inspiration from that title.

What’s MageTrain Like?

MageTrain masterfully blends elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into a unique gaming experience. You control a line of heroes that snake behind you, autonomously attacking as you maneuver through an arena. Your challenge is to strategically position each hero within the line, as their abilities vary based on their placement. Whether leading the charge or supporting from the rear, each hero's role is crucial.

At launch, MageTrain offers nine heroes, including one who uniquely throws birds. Each hero possesses distinct skills that change based on their position in the formation. As you navigate through eight diverse dungeons, you'll encounter 28 different enemy types and have access to 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, collect gold and power-ups to strengthen your lineup.

The game's roguelike nature ensures that no two runs are the same. You'll make choices on branching paths, select upgrades, and strive to survive as long as possible. Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, there are no fixed levels, and you can't save your progress mid-run. If you make a mistake or get overwhelmed, you'll have to start over.

It Isn’t Slow-Paced

The excitement in MageTrain stems from the continuous improvement you experience with each run, even upon defeat. You'll learn the best times to play defensively, when to aggressively attack, and when to simply hold on for another 30 seconds.
