LEGO Ventures into Gaming with New In-House Developments

LEGO CEO Niels Christiansen has shared exciting news about the company's future, emphasizing a significant expansion into the digital realm with a focus on developing video games. This strategic move involves creating new titles both independently and in collaboration with other developers, aiming to enrich the LEGO experience across both digital and physical platforms.

“We are confident that, as long as we operate under the LEGO brand, we aim to create experiences for children of all ages across both digital and physical platforms. Developing games internally is something we are actively pursuing.” Niels Christiansen

This expansion into video game development does not mean LEGO is pulling away from its successful licensing model. Just last month, reports surfaced from journalist Jason Schreier indicating that TT Games, renowned for its LEGO-themed titles, is currently developing a new game, possibly linked to a Warner Bros. franchise.

LEGO's most notable gaming endeavor to date is its collaboration with Epic Games. The introduction of a LEGO-themed mode in Fortnite last year has proven immensely popular, underscoring the potential of LEGO in the digital gaming space.

In addition to this, LEGO has a storied history with TT Games, having produced a beloved series of adventure games over the last two decades. While TT Games has been relatively quiet about new projects, there are whispers of a LEGO Harry Potter game on the horizon, buoyed by the commercial success of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Furthermore, LEGO's partnership with 2K Games resulted in the release of LEGO 2K Drive, a racing game that debuted last year, further demonstrating the brand's adaptability and appeal in the diverse gaming market.
