Idris Elba Pitches Live-Action 'Cyberpunk 2077' with Keanu Reeves
Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, dreams of a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film alongside Keanu Reeves. Read on for details about this exciting prospect!
A Night City Reunion?
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, promoting his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he again shares the screen with Keanu Reeves), Idris Elba expressed his strong desire for a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation featuring himself and Reeves. He stated that the pairing of their characters would be "Whoa," suggesting a powerful on-screen dynamic.
This isn't their first collaboration; Elba portrayed Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty DLC, while Reeves famously voiced Johnny Silverhand in the main game.
Elba's enthusiasm isn't unfounded. Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red partnering with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and The Witcher live-action series suggests a Cyberpunk adaptation is highly plausible.
More Cyberpunk on the Horizon
Beyond a potential live-action film, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. It's currently available in several languages, with English to follow. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also planned for 2025, and a new animated series is in development. CD Projekt Red is clearly committed to expanding the Cyberpunk franchise across various media.
