Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now
Unleash the Ghoul Within
The latest update for Fallout 76, announced by Bethesda on March 18, ushers in Season 20 titled "The Ghoul Within," which is now live. This update introduces an array of ghoul-centric features, new mechanics, and fresh cosmetics to revamp your C.A.M.P.
Players can now embark on the "Leap of Faith" questline to undergo Ghoulification, unlocking a new area in the Savage Divide and meeting new characters essential for this transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with access to 30 unique Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks."
The Feral ability substitutes the traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter. Depending on the meter's level, players receive different boosts. However, when the meter hits 0%, gameplay dynamics shift dramatically: "+150% Melee Damage, and lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."
On the other hand, the Glow ability lets players consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing players to emit a glow. This ability also boosts maximum health, heals damage, and enhances the effectiveness of Ghoul-exclusive Perks.
With 28 new perks and 2 legendary perks tailored for Ghouls, players have plenty of options to customize their gameplay. Note that Ghouls cannot access perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance as they are irrelevant to their new state.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the radiation-filled wasteland becomes easier as a Ghoul thanks to the new abilities and perks. However, this transformation may strain relations with certain factions like the Brotherhood of Steel, making them hostile and potentially blocking access to some quests.
Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises that allow Ghouls to interact with previously inaccessible content. If the Ghoul life doesn't suit you, reverting to human form is possible via the Character Screen, though this is a one-way trip. To transform back into a Ghoul, players can purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms on the Character Screen.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
Whether you're new to the wasteland or a seasoned veteran, the Level 50 Character Boost included in Season 20 can fast-track your adventure. Available for 1500 Atoms, this boost equips players with perks and enhancements to dive straight into Daily Ops, Public Events, and key story content.
The update also brings a suite of bug fixes and balance adjustments, including improvements to accessibility, combat mechanics, and weapon damage. Bethesda has also teased the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update scheduled for April 29, as part of their ongoing season calendar.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has overcome its initial challenges with consistent updates, culminating in the current Season 20 release. The game now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews praising the improvements. Fallout 76 is playable on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
