Capcom Launches First-Ever Game Development Competition: A Collaborative Effort to Boost the Industry
Capcom is launching its inaugural game development competition, the Capcom Games Competition, fostering collaboration between industry and academia to strengthen the video game landscape. This student-focused initiative offers a unique opportunity for aspiring game developers in Japan.
A Catalyst for Industry Growth
This groundbreaking competition aims to revitalize the video game industry by supporting research within educational institutions and nurturing exceptional talent. Teams of up to 20 students will collaborate, each member assuming a specific game development role, mirroring real-world studio environments. The six-month development period will include mentorship from seasoned Capcom developers, providing invaluable experience in cutting-edge game development techniques. Winning teams will receive support for potential game commercialization.
Competition Details
The competition is open to Japanese university, graduate school, and vocational school students aged 18 and older. Applications open December 9, 2024, and close January 17, 2025 (unless otherwise stated).
Powered by RE ENGINE
Participants will utilize Capcom's proprietary RE ENGINE (Reach for the Moon Engine), initially developed for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in 2017. This powerful engine, continuously refined and updated, has powered numerous successful Capcom titles, including recent Resident Evil installments, Dragon's Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds.
