Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Reportedly Exits BioWare

Author : Dylan Update : Mar 22,2025

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly leaving BioWare, an EA-owned studio. Eurogamer reports her departure, expected in the coming weeks, follows the game's launch last October. While questions remain regarding The Veilguard's commercial success, Eurogamer states Busche's exit is unrelated to its performance. EA is expected to release its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4th, offering potential clarity on the game's sales figures. EA has yet to comment on the report.

Busche joined BioWare in 2019 from Maxis, contributing to various Sims projects. Her role as director on The Veilguard was crucial in navigating the game's final years of development, a journey detailed in IGN's article, "How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade." This article highlighted the game's extensive development, including a significant shift from a planned multiplayer structure to a single-player RPG.

BioWare has confirmed no DLC is planned for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, shifting focus to Mass Effect 5. This follows August 2023 layoffs affecting approximately 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby. These layoffs coincided with broader internal restructuring at EA, effectively dividing the company into sports and other entertainment sectors. Rumors of a potential BioWare acquisition also circulated that summer. The decision to transition Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher was ostensibly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard (initially titled Dreadwolf) in 2024 faced initial negative fan reaction, prompting BioWare to quickly release gameplay footage. While the name change wasn't universally welcomed, subsequent impressions were generally positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain, leaving fans questioning whether BioWare will be given the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard.
