DOOM Update: Classic Games Enhanced
While waiting for the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many players are revisiting the classic DOOM and DOOM II. Good news! The developers have resumed work and recently released an update for the DOOM + DOOM II compilation.
This update significantly improves the technical aspects of the games, but that's not all. Multiplayer mod support has been added, compatible with mods created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative play now allows all players to pick up items, and an observer mode has been implemented for players waiting to be revived. The multiplayer network code has also been optimized, and the mod loader can now handle more than the first 100+ subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, the developers are focusing on accessibility. Players will have extensive customization options, far exceeding those in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the game's accessibility, allowing players to adjust enemy damage, difficulty, projectile speed, damage taken, and other factors like game tempo, aggression levels, and parry timing. Stratton also confirmed that prior experience with the DOOM franchise isn't necessary to understand the narratives of DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal.
