The Digital Revolution of Devarattam

This application was developed as part of my initiative, "The Digital Revolution of Devarattam," to honor the art form. I respectfully dedicate this app to Kalaimamani Mr. M. KUMARARAMAN (retired teacher), Kalaimani Mr. M. KANNAN KUMAR, and Kalaimani Mr. K. NELLAI MANIKANDAN from Zamin Kodangipatti—recipients of the KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMANI, and USTAD BISMILLAH KHAN YUVA PURASKAR awards, respectively, for their contributions to Devarattam. It is also dedicated to my Guru, Mr. E. RAJAKAMULU, and all the beloved legends of Devarattam.

I created the Devarattam app primarily to promote Devarattam and highlight its awardees. The app details the dance and its honored artists. Devarattam is a traditional folk dance from Tamil Nadu, historically and presently performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. The dance comprises 32 to 72 steps, with 32 being the foundational movements; the additional steps are variations of these basics.

Dancers hold a kerchief in each hand, wear Salangai (ankle bells) on each leg, and perform Devarattam to the rhythm of the traditional instrument known as the Deva Thunthumi.
