Zdarsky's Captain America Relaunch: Marvel Unveils New Series

Author : Aaron Update : Mar 13,2025

Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its monthly Captain America series with a new creative team and a fresh narrative direction. This exciting reboot will delve into Steve Rogers' early days after his awakening from suspended animation, even chronicling his very first encounter with Doctor Doom.

The new series boasts a stellar creative team: Chip Zdarsky (known for his work on Batman and Daredevil) will pen the script, Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers) will provide the art, and Frank D'Armata will handle the colors. This marks a reunion for the trio, who previously collaborated on 2017's Marvel 2-in-One.

The story begins shortly after Steve's rediscovery and thawing in the modern Marvel Universe. His first mission after rejoining the U.S. Army involves teaming up with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate a Latveria recently seized by a young, ambitious Doctor Doom. While the series will eventually transition to the present-day Marvel setting, this initial arc's events will significantly impact the ongoing narrative.

"I've been a huge Captain America fan for decades," Zdarsky shared. "I loved writing the grizzled, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, so getting to write the actual Captain America title feels like a dream! We're exploring Cap's early days in the modern era with a twist that I think will really surprise readers! I'm thrilled to share this, especially with Valerio and Frank's incredible art!"

He continued, "I've approached this title similarly to my Daredevil run, really trying to get inside Cap's head, offering a grounded, human perspective on who he is in this new world. Steve Rogers represents the best of us, and I want that to shine through on every page."

"Captain America is one of my all-time favorites," Schiti added. "Reuniting with Chip Zdarsky and Frank D'Armata after our amazing experience on Marvel 2-In-One is fantastic, and I'm working on a story that perfectly blends heart, action, and entertainment! Surprisingly, I found myself focusing more on Steve Rogers, the man, rather than just Captain America."

Schiti further explained, "Chip's script is so clever and compelling that readers will be drawn into Steve's heart and soul. He's a man who embodies truth, justice, and freedom. He fought a war against Nazism, 'died' in that war, and returned to fight again. That's immense pressure, and considering the timeline, he's only in his late twenties in the era we're exploring!"

Captain America #1 will be released on July 2, 2025.
