Ygwulf

In the opening scenes of *Avowed*'s main quest, the Envoy suffers a tragic assassination. As you delve into solving your own murder mystery with the help of Kai and Marius in Paradis during the Untimely End quest, you uncover that your assassin is Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels. This group fiercely opposes Aedyr's presence in the region, making the Envoy, as the emperor's representative, a prime target.

Your journey leads you to Ygwulf's underground hideout, where you must overcome numerous enemies and navigate challenging platforming sections. Be sure to stock up on Health Potions and equip your best gear for this encounter. As you progress through the dungeon, you may come across documents that shed light on Ygwulf's motivations and his subsequent remorse. Initially driven by a belief that the Gods demanded your death, Ygwulf's visions eventually lead him to regret his actions. Even if you miss these documents, he will express his remorse when you confront him at the quest's climax. Despite his regret, Ygwulf is prepared to face justice for his deeds.

What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?

Choosing to have Ygwulf turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable option. He would face the brutal wrath of Inquisitor Lödwyn, resulting in a painful death, and you would receive fewer rewards compared to sparing him or killing him. If you decide to spare Ygwulf, he offers you 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra as a token of gratitude. While these resources are modest, they can be useful. However, regardless of your choice to spare him, Ygwulf's fate is sealed, and he will meet his end later in the story.

Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed

Given that Ygwulf's fate inevitably leads to his death, opting to attack him during your dialogue encounter is the most beneficial choice. This decision triggers a boss fight, which serves as excellent practice for future encounters in *Avowed*. Moreover, defeating Ygwulf grants you the best loot among the available options. Upon his defeat, you can loot his body for currency, Adra, and his unique Blackwing armor set. This armor not only boasts a striking appearance but also provides significant stealth advantages, including a +30% Damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% Movement Speed increase when crouching, making it easier to evade enemies.

Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING

Although you encounter Ygwulf early in the game, his fate has a minor impact on *Avowed*'s ending. After the final gameplay section, you will experience art and narration that reflect the consequences of your decisions on Eora's Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to unify the region and foster peace, Ygwulf's death will always occur, further radicalizing the Paradisan Rebellion and ensuring they remain a violent opposition to your efforts even after the credits roll.
