SEGA is bringing the immensely popular Virtua Fighter series to Steam for the first time in the form of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. This forthcoming remaster is the fifth major iteration of the 18-year-old game, Virtua Fighter 5. The precise release date was not yet disclosed, but SEGA hinted that it will launch this winter.Despite releasing numerous versions of this game, SEGA characterized Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O as "the ultimate remaster of the classic 3D fighter." The game boasts rollback netcode support, ensuring smooth online play even with a subpar internet connection. The game also supports 4K graphics, displays updated high-resolution textures, and elevates its framerate to 60 fps, making the game as fluid and beautiful as ever.
Players can select from classic modes such as Ranked Match, Arcade, Training, and Versus. The developers also incorporated two new modes. The first is the capacity to create "custom online tournaments and leagues with up to 16 players," while the Spectator Mode enables them to observe other players and learn some impressive moves or new strategies to conquer their opponents.Audience reception of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O’s YouTube trailer is quite favorable, despite being the fifth installment of the game. One fan commented, "Am I going to buy another copy of Virtua Fighter 5? You bet." Others are also pleased that the game is being released on PC. However, some fans are still requesting VF6. "Once the world is a radioactive wasteland with no internet after WW3, Sega will finally release VF6," a fan noted.
Previously Anticipated As Virtua Fighter 6
Initially hinted earlier this month via an interview with VGC, many fans anticipated that SEGA is developing Virtua Fighter 6. In the same interview, Justin Scarpone, SEGA’s global head of transmedia, mentioned that "we have a suite of titles in development right now that fall into that legacy category, which we announced last year at The Game Awards; Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, and we have another Virtua Fighter being developed."However, this anticipation was dispelled as Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O was released on Steam on November 22 with upgraded visuals, new modes, and the integration of rollback netcode.
The Return of the Classic Fighting Game
Virtua Fighter 5 debuted on SEGA Lindbergh, an arcade system, in July 2006 before its release on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007. J6, or Judgement 6, invited top fighters globally to the Fifth World Fighting Tournament. Initially, players could select from 17 fighters; later versions, including Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O, offer 19 playable characters.Following its launch, Virtua Fighter 5 received updates and remakes for broader appeal. These include:
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R (2008)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown (2010)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown (2021)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O (2024)
Boasting enhanced graphics and modern features, Virtual Fighter 5 R.E.V.O is thrilling news for VF enthusiasts.
