Unveiling of Intriguing Project from Xbox Slated for January Reveal

Xbox's upcoming Developer Direct, airing January 23rd, will unveil four games, one of which remains shrouded in mystery. Hints suggest this fourth title is a new installment in a renowned Japanese franchise with a rich history.

The event, a yearly tradition for Xbox, follows successful previous iterations. The inaugural event in January 2023 unexpectedly launched Hi-Fi Rush, establishing the Direct's reputation for surprises. Last year's showcase featured Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and a presentation from Square Enix showcasing Visions of Mana.

This year's confirmed titles include Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The identity of the fourth game, however, is fueling considerable speculation. While some fans hope for titles like Fable, The Outer Worlds 2, or Gears of War: E-Day, industry insider Jez Corden suggests a different origin: a new entry in a long-standing Japanese IP.

This clue eliminates some previously considered possibilities. While a new Final Fantasy title from Square Enix might seem plausible given their past appearance, their existing PlayStation partnerships make this unlikely.

Other strong contenders include Capcom's Resident Evil (although traditionally revealed at PlayStation events, Resident Evil 9 is rumored to be ready for a reveal), Sega's Persona (following Xbox's marketing collaboration with Sega on Metaphor: ReFantazio), and a potential Ninja Gaiden revival from Team Ninja, given the franchise's strong association with Xbox during the original Xbox era.

Despite the exciting possibilities, the true identity of the mystery game remains unknown. Viewers are encouraged to tune in to the Xbox Developer Direct on January 23rd for the official reveal.
