Transformers: Reactivate Canceled by Splash Damage
Splash Damage officially cancels the long-delayed Transformers: Reactivate. The 1-4 player online game, unveiled at The Game Awards 2022, was to feature Autobots and Decepticons battling a new alien threat. While leaks suggested a Generation 1 roster (Ironhide, Hot Rod, Starscream, Soundwave, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee) and possibly Beast Wars characters, the project has been scrapped.
The studio's announcement cites a difficult decision and potential staff layoffs due to redundancies. Splash Damage expressed gratitude to its development team and Hasbro for their contributions. Fan reaction is mixed, with some expressing disappointment, while others anticipated the cancellation given the lack of updates since the initial trailer.
The studio is now fully focusing on "Project Astrid," a AAA open-world survival game built with Unreal Engine 5, announced in March 2023, in collaboration with streamers Shroud and Sacriel. This shift in focus, however, will unfortunately result in job losses for some Transformers: Reactivate team members. The cancellation leaves Transformers fans without a new AAA title featuring the iconic robots.
Summary
Developed by Splash Damage for Hasbro and Takara Tomy.
