How Starbrand Works in Marvel Snap

Starbrand is a formidable 3-cost, 10-power card with an ability that states: “Ongoing: Your opponent has +3 Power at each other location.” This effect is distinct from cards like Mister Fantastic, as it boosts your opponent's power at every location except where Starbrand is played. As an Ongoing card, Starbrand synergizes well with cards like Zero, Sauron, and Enchantress to mitigate its drawbacks.

While Starbrand faces a hard counter from Shang-Chi, it pairs excellently with Surtur. However, fitting Starbrand into decks can be challenging due to its 3-cost slot, competing with other powerful cards like Surtur and Sauron.

Best Day One Starbrand Decks in Marvel Snap

Starbrand slots seamlessly into two popular deck archetypes: Shuri Sauron and Surtur. Here's how you can integrate Starbrand into these decks:

Shuri Sauron Deck

This deck is budget-friendly, featuring only Ares as a Series 5 card, which can be substituted with Vision. Leveraging Zabu's ability, this deck plays similarly to traditional Shuri Sauron decks. Use Zero, Sauron, and Enchantress to negate the negative effects of your Ongoing cards, then amplify a lane with Shuri and a card like Red Skull, and secure a final location with Taskmaster copying the massive power.

Although Taskmaster's cost increase makes it challenging to play alongside Ebony Maw, Zabu allows you to pair Shuri with Starbrand or Ares for unexpected power spikes. Starbrand's drawback is less impactful when going tall with Shuri, and you can neutralize it with Enchantress.

Surtur Deck

This deck is pricier, featuring four Series 5 cards. The synergy between Sam Wilson and Cull Obsidian, combined with Surtur and Ares, forms a powerful core. Starbrand enables playing Skaar at a reduced cost by setting up with Ares, Attuma, and Crossbones. Zero helps mitigate the downsides of Starbrand and Attuma, though it's not essential for every play.

The key challenge with this deck is timing Starbrand's play. Ideally, deploy Surtur first and save Starbrand for the final turn alongside Zero and Skaar, though this may require some experimentation to perfect.

Should You Use Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector’s Tokens on Starbrand?

Starbrand is a "wait and see" card, especially with recent meta shifts introduced by Agamotto and Eson. It's uncertain whether Shuri Sauron can remain competitive or if Surtur decks will find their footing in the current meta. If you have the resources, give it a few days to assess Starbrand's impact before investing.

And those are the best Starbrand decks in Marvel Snap.
