Temuera Morrison Saddened by Boba Fett Hiatus After Disney+ Series

What's next for Boba Fett? The legendary Star Wars character was last seen at the conclusion of his own series, The Book of Boba Fett, back in February 2022. While the Disney+ spin-off proved divisive, with some fans criticizing its softer take on the iconic bounty hunter, it can't be the end of his story, can it?

Now, over three years later, the prospect of a second season feels lost in a galaxy far, far away. Lucasfilm has shown no signs of reviving the series. The upcoming film The Mandalorian & Grogu might offer the best hope for a live-action return. Could The Mandalorian Season 4 be another possibility? Lucasfilm hasn't announced anything, but if it happens, Boba Fett might make an appearance there.

Truthfully, the future of both Boba Fett and the actor who portrays him, Temuera Morrison, remains up in the air. Recent comments from Morrison himself do little to suggest a different outcome.

While promoting his new film, Ka Whawhai Tonu (In The Fire of War), the 64-year-old New Zealand actor expressed disappointment at not revisiting the role since his series ended.

“Where is The Book of Boba Fett Season 2? Where the hell is Season 2? I know they're working on Ahsoka Season 2, and I'm sitting here wondering, 'Where's my Season 2?'"

Morrison told Collider he even suggested to Lucasfilm that Boba Fett could appear in Ahsoka's second season, humorously asking if he could play Rex and remove the helmet. He noted his unique position of portraying not just Boba Fett, but all the clones derived from the character.

He mentioned recently running into Star Wars creative leads Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau and reminding them Boba Fett is still around. Their response, he said, was reticent. "They kind of said, 'Well, well...' and didn’t want to say too much. There were a few whispers, but they left it at that."

That interaction left Morrison feeling like "I've been preserved for a later date, and I'm going to be tastier." He likened the sensation to visiting grandma’s house and seeing "that preservative jar of peaches up on the shelf."

“That's what I think,” he continued. “I'm one of those peaches, preserved on the shelf for a later date, and I'm going to be tastier.”

Of course, Morrison could be playing coy, fully aware of a pending return to the Star Wars universe. Lucasfilm is known for its secrecy, as demonstrated when Rosario Dawson was surprised by Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker cameo on The Mandalorian set.

However, the current evidence suggests no active projects for Boba Fett are in development. Last year, Morrison pointed to the mixed reception of The Book of Boba Fett as a potential reason for the character's absence from the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu film. He confirmed that Disney had not approached him for the movie or a second season of his own show.

The series, which chronicled Fett's escape from the Sarlacc and essentially served as a mini-season of The Mandalorian, ranks among the least-favored Star Wars shows. "This show's reception does seem to have impacted the future of the character in the franchise," Morrison stated in August 2024. Has anything changed in the year since? It seems unlikely.

Morrison first appeared as Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and later returned as his son and clone, Boba Fett. He has made his eagerness to return clear, expressing a desire for a significant role in The Mandalorian, just as that character featured prominently in his own series.
