Superman Unlimited Brings Marvel Mainstay Dan Slott Back to DC Comics

Author : Isaac Update : Mar 20,2025

DC Comics has announced Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series launching in May 2025, marking the return of Marvel Comics veteran writer Dan Slott to the DC universe. Slott, renowned for his work on Marvel titles like The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, spent the last two decades exclusively with Marvel. His earlier career, however, included contributions to DC books such as Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures. This new series reunites him with DC.

Superman Unlimited pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (known for American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo.

“He’s the greatest superhero of all time, and I’ve waited my whole life to tell his stories,” Slott stated. “Not just because of his amazing powers, but because of who he is. Rafael Albuquerque and I will take him—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Expect millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic villains, and brand-new friends and foes. Whether you're a lifelong Superman fan or a complete newcomer to comics, Superman Unlimited #1 is the perfect jumping-on point.”

The series introduces a perilous new status quo. A Kryptonite asteroid shower blankets the planet with Green K, empowering Superman's enemies, including Intergang, with Kryptonite-enhanced weaponry. This forces Superman to develop new technology and combat strategies. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia conglomerate after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.

Superman Unlimited builds upon the foundation laid by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Superman/Batman in the early 2000s,” explained DC group editor Paul Kaminski. “It captures the classic, exciting, high-flying adventures Superman is known for, while introducing a massive new Kryptonite deposit—a game-changer for DC's Superman-related comics. Imagine bank robberies where every weapon is Kryptonite-based. This is a world of unprecedented danger for Superman and his family.”

Kaminski continued, “We launched Justice League Unlimited last fall, with Mark Waid and Dan Mora showcasing unlimited superheroes. In contrast, Slott and Albuquerque's Superman Unlimited features unlimited, Kryptonite-powered supervillains. Green K is everywhere. Superman must adapt to survive. Dan's pitch is full of surprises, and Rafa's art is stunning. 2025 will be truly Superman UNLIMITED.”

A 10-page prelude story in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 (releasing May 3, 2025) kicks off Slott and Albuquerque's run. Superman Unlimited #1 follows on May 21, preceding the July 11 release of James Gunn's Superman film.
