Star Wars Outlaws Gets More Bad Sales News
Star Wars Outlaws Underperforms, Outsold by Jedi: Survivor
Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws, the franchise's first open-world title, is facing significant challenges. Released in August 2024, the game has underperformed commercially, falling short of Ubisoft's sales projections and leading to a sharp drop in the company's stock price. This underperformance is further highlighted by reports indicating that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, released in 2023, is outselling Outlaws.
Negative player feedback regarding Outlaws' combat and stealth mechanics, despite initially positive reviews, contributed to its poor sales. While Ubisoft addressed these issues through updates, they proved insufficient to significantly boost sales. The game's ranking as the 47th best-selling title in Europe for 2024 underscores its struggles.
Several factors explain Jedi: Survivor's success over Outlaws. Jedi: Survivor is a highly-rated sequel to a popular game, benefiting from established brand recognition and positive critical reception. A subsequent update expanding its availability to PS4 and Xbox One further fueled its sales.
Conversely, Outlaws has struggled to gain traction, despite ongoing post-launch support. This includes DLC expansions such as "Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card," featuring Lando Calrissian, and the upcoming "Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate's Fortune," featuring Hondo Ohnaka, slated for Spring 2025. However, these additions haven't been enough to reverse the game's underperformance. The lack of precise sales figures for both games prevents a definitive comparison, but the disparity is evident.
