Star Wars, Mandalorian Added to Monopoly Go
The mobile gaming phenomenon Monopoly Go is joining forces with Star Wars to infuse its property-trading gameplay with sci-fi excitement. Announced today at Star Wars Celebration Japan, the crossover event will run from May 1 through July 2, drawing inspiration from The Skywalker Saga and The Mandalorian.
Galactic New Features
Beyond giving iconic Star Wars characters adorable cartoon redesigns, the Monopoly Go Star Wars event introduces several thematic additions:
- A special Star Wars sticker album collection
- Podracing action in the Mos Espa Grand Arena
- Exclusive in-game collectibles including tokens, shields, and emojis
Players will enjoy the bizarre charm of seeing Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Han Solo, R2-D2, Yoda, Anakin Skywalker, and Qui-Gon Jinn mingling with Mr. Monopoly (aka Rich Uncle Pennybags).
Following Marvel's Footsteps
This isn't Monopoly Go's first major crossover—last September brought a Marvel-themed event featuring Spider-Man, Wolverine, and the Avengers.
The announcement comes after publisher Scopely's recent acquisition of Niantic's Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now development teams.
Record-Breaking Success
According to GamesIndustry.biz reports, Monopoly Go dominated 2024 as the highest-grossing mobile game, generating an astonishing $2.47 billion in revenue. Scopely revealed the game achieved 150 million lifetime downloads and maintains 10 million daily active players.
