"Star Wars: Hunter to End in 2025, Last Update Coming Soon"
Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's innovative foray into the Star Wars universe, is set to close its doors just over a year after its debut on iOS and Android. Launched in June 2024, the game quickly captured attention with its unique blend of game show flair and fresh interpretations of Star Wars archetypes.
The shutdown is scheduled for October 1st of this year, with a final content update slated for release on April 15th. In response to the closure, Zynga has announced that in-game currency will be eligible for refunds, and certain seasonal events will be rerun as part of an extended Season 3.
Fans eager to experience the last addition to the roster, Tuya, will have the chance to play this final hunter in multiplayer mode. Tuya will be introduced in the upcoming content update and will be available to all players at no cost from the outset.
The End of the Journey
The announcement of Star Wars: Hunters' closure has come as a surprise to many, especially given the lack of prior indications of underperformance. Given Zynga's robust standing in the gaming industry, it's likely that broader strategic considerations led to this decision.
One possible factor could be the oversaturation of the pseudo-hero shooter genre, coupled with a shift in the Star Wars fanbase demographics. Today's average Star Wars enthusiast tends to skew older and may not be as interested in a fast-paced, mobile multiplayer experience.
