Spider-Man '94 Comic Continues Animated Series Legacy

Author : Lillian Update : Nov 16,2025

Devotees of the classic 90s animated series Spider-Man: The Animated Series have eagerly awaited a revival, especially after the successful debut of X-Men '97 in 2024. While Marvel isn't planning a new animated series (focusing instead on new seasons of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man), they're bringing this beloved Spidey saga back in comic form with Spider-Man '94.

Spider-Man '94 is a four-issue limited series that continues directly from the show's famous 1998 cliffhanger finale. The story reunites Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson in New York while introducing two major villains never before seen in this animated universe. The creative team includes longtime Spider-Man writer J.M. DeMatteis (who also contributed to the original animated series) and artist Jim Towe (Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse), with variant covers by Nick Bradshaw, Ron Lim, and John Tyler Christopher.

Marvel's official synopsis for Spider-Man '94 reads:

After traversing the Multiverse, Peter Parker – the Amazing, Spectacular, Radioactive Spider-Man – swings back into New York City with Mary Jane Watson. But wait! Two legendary Spider-Man villains, never before seen in this universe, make their dramatic debut!

Legendary writer J.M. DeMatteis and rising star artist Jim Towe deliver the sequel fans have awaited for three decades. Prepare for unexpected twists in this continuation of one of animation's greatest superhero eras!

"The 90s Spider-Man animated series holds a special place in Spidey history – it introduced generations to Peter Parker's world," DeMatteis told IGN. "We're approaching this as the show's next season, introducing fresh villains and challenges while honoring the original series' creative vision established by John Semper and his team."

Spider-Man '94 #1 swings into stores on September 3, 2025.

This marks another instance of Marvel extending an animated universe through comics. Years before X-Men '97, Marvel published X-Men '92 as a continuation of that classic cartoon.
