Spider-Man 2 came out on PC and was hacked within an hour
Spider-Man 2 hit the PC market on Steam and the Epic Games Store without any protective measures in place, making it impossible to hack the game before its release. The absence of pre-order and pre-download options, coupled with a hefty 140-gigabyte download size, contributed to this scenario. However, within an hour of its launch, hackers managed to download and crack the game, which, as anticipated, lacked any sophisticated defense mechanisms.
Sony kept a low profile with the marketing of Spider-Man 2, and the system requirements were only disclosed a day before the PC release. On Steam, the game secured the seventh spot among Sony's major releases, trailing behind not only heavyweights like God of War and Horizon but also Days Gone.
Initial player feedback has been underwhelming. At the time of this post, Spider-Man 2 garnered a 55% positive review rating from 1,280 reviews, with users citing issues like poor optimization, frequent crashes, and various bugs.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man Remastered continues to dominate as the series' online leader on PC, having previously attracted over 66,000 concurrent players. Whether Spider-Man 2 can come close to its predecessor's record remains to be seen over the upcoming Friday and weekend. If the current sales trend persists, the game stands a solid chance of achieving a respectable performance.
