Sony Unveils New PSN Gifts, Updates Policy for PC Gamers
Sony's PC gaming policy sparks controversy among gamers. The company's requirement for PSN tethering, even in single-player titles, and the service's regional limitations restrict access to new releases.
Sony recently announced policy adjustments. While PSN tethering on PC isn't entirely abandoned, some concessions have been made. These games will not require mandatory PSN tethering:
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2
- God of War Ragnarök
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
Players who choose to tether to PSN will receive these bonuses:
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early access to the "2099" suit line for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
- God of War Ragnarök: The Black Bear armor set, early access to the "Lost Things" chest, and bonus resources.
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Bonus points for unlocking features.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant costume.
In November investor meetings, COO Hiroki Totoki acknowledged the backlash against PSN connection requirements, emphasizing their importance for security and order. While he referenced service-based games, he failed to clarify how mandatory PSN accounts enhance security in single-player games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarök.
The gaming landscape has changed.
