Sony's New Patents Predicts Your Moves and Turns the PS5 Controller Into a Gun

Sony continues to innovate, enhancing gaming experiences with two new patents. Discover how an AI-predicting camera and a DualSense trigger attachment could revolutionize your gameplay.

Two New Patents For Sony

AI That Predicts Your Movement To Reduce Lag

Sony's New Patents Predicts Your Moves and Turns the PS5 Controller Into a Gun

Sony's latest patents include an AI-powered camera designed to predict player actions and a gun trigger attachment for the DualSense controller.

The patent, known as Timed Input/Action Release, involves a camera that monitors the player and controller. This camera captures footage, which an AI system, specifically a "machine learning-based model or other system," analyzes to anticipate the player's next moves. The system also allows for "incomplete controller actions," enabling the AI to infer the player's intentions.

This technology aims to minimize lag in online gaming, a common challenge, by allowing the AI and computer system to stay ahead in processing.

A Trigger For The DualSense Controller For Realistic Gunfights

Another notable patent introduces a trigger attachment for the DualSense controller, designed to enhance realism in first-person shooter (FPS) games and action-adventure RPGs featuring firearms.

With the attachment, players can hold the DualSense controller sideways, using the right arm as a gun stock, as illustrated in the diagram. The space between the R1 and R2 buttons acts as the gun's sight, and pressing the trigger simulates firing a real gun. The patent also suggests compatibility with other devices, such as the PSVR2 headset.

Sony, with 78% of its 95,533 patents active, is known for innovative ideas like adaptive difficulty adjustments, a DualSense variant for charging earbuds, and temperature-changing controllers. While these patents showcase Sony's creativity, their realization into actual products remains uncertain. Only time will tell if these concepts will transform into tangible innovations.
