A newly established PlayStation studio in Los Angeles, California, is developing a major, original AAA title for the PS5, as confirmed by a recent job posting. This marks Sony's 20th first-party studio, adding to its already impressive lineup of renowned developers.

The announcement has generated considerable excitement among gaming fans, who eagerly anticipate news from established PlayStation studios like Santa Monica Studio, Naughty Dog, and Insomniac Games. Sony's strategic acquisitions of studios such as Housemarque, Bluepoint Games, and Firesprite in recent years have further fueled this anticipation. Now, a mysterious new studio joins the ranks.

The job listing for a Project Senior Producer revealed the existence of this unnamed Los Angeles-based studio and its work on a "ground-breaking" original AAA IP. Speculation regarding the studio's origins centers on two possibilities:

One theory suggests the studio may house a spin-off team from Bungie, stemming from the studio's layoffs in July 2024. Around 155 Bungie employees transitioned to Sony Interactive Entertainment, potentially forming the core of this new team.

Another strong contender is the team led by industry veteran Jason Blundell, formerly co-founder of Deviation Games. Deviation Games, which was developing a PS5 AAA title, unfortunately closed in March 2024. However, many former Deviation Games employees joined PlayStation in May 2024, under Blundell's leadership, suggesting a potential continuation or revival of their previous project. Given the longer timeframe of Blundell's team's formation, this seems a more likely scenario.
