Sonic the Hedgehog: IDW Charts a Dramatic New Future for the Series – IGN Fan Fest 2025

IDW's long-running Sonic the Hedgehog comic series recently celebrated its 75th issue, culminating in the epic final battle between Team Sonic and the villain Clutch. This sets the stage for the ominous "Scattered Pieces" storyline, unfolding across issues #76-80.

With issue #76 already available, IGN exclusively reveals new artwork from Sonic the Hedgehog #79 at IGN Fan Fest. The slideshow gallery showcases three stunning covers for #79, alongside previously unveiled "Scattered Pieces" covers.

Sonic the Hedgehog #79, written by series regular Ian Flynn, features interior art and the main cover by Adam Bryce Thomas, with variant covers by Tyler Mcgrath and Nathalie Fourdraine. IDW's official description promises a climactic showdown:

The long-running feud between ace sniper Whisper and sinister assassin Mimic reaches a thrilling climax! Only one will survive. Can Tangle and Silver turn the tide of battle, or will Whisper suffer another friend caught in the crossfire? This is a battle years in the making!

"IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog has thrived for seven years, developing unique storylines, characters, and narrative elements," Flynn explains to IGN. "Many of these converged in Evan Stanley’s recent arc. Reaching a climax is exciting, but I’m equally eager to explore what follows. Fans will be asking 'What happens next?' My arc answers that, offers its own conclusions, and sets the stage for Evan’s next major arc."
