Sonic 3 has outpaced its predecessor, Sonic 2, in the domestic market. However, it remains far behind the top-earning video game adaptation, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which raked in an astounding $574,934,330 domestically and a staggering $1,359,146,628 worldwide. These records set by the Nintendo adaptation might prove unbeatable, though the upcoming Minecraft movie and the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie could pose a challenge.

Despite not reaching the pinnacle, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is a resounding success for Paramount, prompting the studio to greenlight Sonic 4. The franchise's momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
